Clinical validation for Styku

During the course of Styku’s early history, the team recognised early that bio-impedance devices failed to provide enough reliability and accuracy to drive better health outcomes. A better model was needed that used the latest in science and technology.

In 2019, Raj and his team took a bold step in building next generation body composition analysis using a 3D infrared sensor to measure your shape. We collaborated with the ShapeUp, a consortium of 5 institutions, including Shepard Research Lab, UCSF Medical Center, University of Hawaii’s Cancer Center, Pennington Biomedical Research Center at LSU, and the University of Washington to develop and then validate a body composition model that used our sensor and digital measuring technology to measure your shape and extract hundreds of important circumferences, areas, and volumes in key areas around the surface of your body. Our internal studies found this approach was not only more accurate and reliable than traditional bio-electrical impedance devices, but a far better experience for our customers. But don’t take our word for it.

Today, Styku can announce that the prestigious journal, Clinical Nutrition, has published the first validation paper illustrating our model’s high accuracy and reliability with respect to the gold standard model used by DEXA machines.

At Styku, we continue to push boundaries in science by exploring and developing novel ways to predict health risks and build awareness. The lack of preventative care, compounded by the pandemic, has driven visible gaps between fitness, wellness and the greater healthcare market. A non-invasive technology like Styku, that is affordable and accessible to the masses, is helping to bridge that gap. We’re proud to see the growing market of fitness, nutrition, and wellness professionals step in and curb the tide of the growing obesity epidemic using this incredible model.

A special thanks to our growing list of clients and partners. With your support, and the support of future clients, together we can help re-shape our healthcare system.
